The 2025 has started with a lot of news commenting the opening of the Jubilee in Rome and with newsletters, blogs, posts, that keep telling us how difficult it will be to travel in Italy, throughout the year.

Some of our esteemed international colleagues have even started to discourage clients and friends from choosing Rome as their destination, due to the problems that a client may supposedly incur.

But…let’s reason together… because the Black Swan, that phenomenon that is described in marketing as a rare, unpredictable event with significant impacts on markets or consumer behaviour, may blind all of us and prevent us from seeing and evaluating the many and unique opportunities that this once every 25 years event, may arise to all of us.

The Jubilee will offer tourists a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in cultural heritage and vibrant festivities. Such events typically feature grand parades, concerts, historical reenactments, and public ceremonies, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity.

For tourists, this is an unparalleled chance to experience the local culture at its peak, witnessing traditions, customs, and performances rarely showcased on such a grand scale.

Jubilees also attract special exhibits, limited-edition merchandise, and commemorative souvenirs, offering visitors unique keepsakes and experiences that are exclusive to the event. Tourists can participate in community activities, enhancing their connection with locals and fostering a sense of belonging.

Additionally, the influx of visitors during a Jubilee often spurs ancillary attractions, such as pop-up markets, culinary festivals, and themed tours, enriching the overall experience.

Local landmarks may also be illuminated or decorated, adding to the visual spectacle and to the experience.

Beyond entertainment, Jubilees can provide educational insights into the region’s history and significance of the milestone being celebrated. For tourists, this is a rare opportunity to blend leisure with learning, leaving Italy with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation of the destination’s cultural legacy.

And for the Catholics?

What is the meaning of travelling  in such a time to Rome, the moral capital of the Catholic religion?

In the Catholic tradition, a Jubilee is a sacred time of grace, renewal, and spiritual restoration. Rooted in biblical origins, it is a period for deep reflection, reconciliation, and acts of mercy. A Catholic Jubilee emphasizes themes of forgiveness, social justice, and the restoration of relationships with God, others, and creation.

The Jubilee offers Catholics an opportunity to receive indulgences, which are spiritual benefits granted under specific conditions, such as prayer, confession, and acts of charity.

Pilgrimage is often encouraged, with designated holy sites becoming focal points for worship and prayer. This journey of faith allows participants to deepen their spiritual connection and seek God’s mercy.

Not too bad a reason for travelling… don’t you think so?

The Jubilee also calls for a renewed commitment to social justice, reflecting the biblical mandate to release captives, forgive debts, and care for the marginalized. It inspires Catholics to engage in charitable works, promote peace, and advocate for the dignity of every human person.

And we all know how much we need peace all over the world, don’t we?

For communities, the Jubilee fosters unity and joy, bringing people together in prayer, celebration, and service. It serves as a reminder of God’s boundless love and mercy, encouraging Catholics to embrace a life of holiness, gratitude, and hope as they look forward to eternal communion with Him.
